God’s sovereign design for humanity has a timeline. There was a time for Creation. Remember, God existed before Creation. There was a time designated for the beginning. There was a precise time for Jesus to die. There was a precise time for the Holy Spirit to be poured out. Jesus will return at a precise time, even if we don’t know the hour or the day.
There’s a fullness of time for the answers to our prayers. There’s a fullness of time for our days on earth. We need to look to the Lord and wait on Him. He’s doing this perfectly. He’s not slow to fulfill His promises.
Jesus didn’t only come at the perfect time. He came in the perfect way. He came as our substitute, so He was born in the flesh, under the law. He perfectly fulfilled the law, so He could take our just punishment for our sins. Since He had no sin, He didn’t have to receive the punishment for sin and came back to life after our sin was dealt with.
He gives us His resurrected life through the Holy Spirit poured out and we take on His identity of son. We are children of God, adopted into the family. That also gives us the privileges of an heir.
Paul says God knows them (think of Jesus saying “I never knew you” to the people calling Him, “Lord, Lord.”) But Paul also fears he labored in vain.
We have to continue in the faith. Our assurance in that is only by relying on God to keep us in the faith. Look to Him for your salvation daily. He’s your Savior; it’s not you. He will save those looking to Him for salvation.
Paul is lamenting that they are enslaving themselves to the law they were set free from.
Believers are born slaves and then born again free. Those not in freedom will persecute those in freedom, but be careful how you view that. There’s a difference between someone telling you what you should or shouldn’t do, and someone calling out sin and calling you to righteousness in Christ.
