Electricity Experiments

Conductivity

      • Battery, size C
      • Piece of aluminum foil, about a foot long
      • Light bulb (get one from a flashlight)
      • Fold the aluminum foil to make a strip about 12 inches long and about 1/2 inch wide.
      • Sit the battery on one end of the strip.
      • Hold the metal base of the light bulb to the other end of the battery.
      • Complete the circuit. Touch the metal base of the light bulb with the aluminum foil strip.

Static Electricity

      • Smooth sheet of newspaper
      • Smooth table top
      • Lay the newspaper on the table.
      • With both hands, rub it against the table.
      • Lift up a corner of the paper and see what happens.
      • Rub the paper with a pencil or different pieces of cloth and see what happens.
      • The friction is causing electrostatic charges making the newspaper cling to the table.
