Here are two examples of not fearing the Lord rightly.
Jonah 1:9 “…I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.”
vs. 16 Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows.
We are to fear the Lord. I wrote before about satan removing the fear of the Lord, at least from parts of the church. I pray for it to be restored. The Lord is redeeming and restoring all things for His people!
Jonah says he fears the Lord, but we don’t get to just say things. Our actions show what we really believe. If he feared the Lord, he would have obeyed.
The sailors are afraid and start making promises and offering sacrifices. God’s not after those things. He wants our obedience.
Here’s the right example.
Jonah 3:5,8 And the people of Nineveh believed God. They called for a fast and put on sackcloth…Let everyone turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands.
In humility, they deny self and obey God.
