Solomon prays:
Let your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and let your saints rejoice in your goodness.
What do salvation clothes look like? Let’s find it in Scripture.
Isaiah 66:10 says I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
What are the clothes of salvation?
I hope you picked up on the robe of righteousness and not the jewels.
Those who think God’s out to give them gold and jewelry because they are God’s bride are missing God’s gift and seeking the things of earth.
When we are clothed with salvation, we wear the royal robes of righteousness.
It’s not just any robe, and it’s not even just any old righteousness. It’s the robe of His righteousness.
Our clothes are not filthy rags but priestly, kingly garments only because it’s His righteousness.
Jesus warned the people that unless their righteousness exceeded that of the Pharisees and the scribes, they were not going to see heaven.
I love the imagery of the robe of righteousness because I think that picturing yourself wearing it changes how you carry yourself.
If you saw yourself robed in righteousness and seated in the heavenly places with Christ, how would you behave?
Knowing who you are in Christ is a step toward walking in the righteousness Christ paid for on the cross. He bought our forgiveness yes, but that forgiveness, that washing, clears the path for the Spirit to indwell us.
It’s the Spirit in us that gives us the power over sin and the willing and the wanting to walk in righteousness, as the light of Christ shines His light on the path He wants us to walk.
