The command to Judah is to “circumcise yourselves to the Lord” and to “remove the foreskin of your hearts.” Sorry for the image, but circumcision as well as death and burial are the images God gives us for baptism. Believers are meant to cut off their old life and bury their old man. Flesh is supposed to die so that Spirit can live.
The flesh will go. God says, “Lest my wrath go for them like fire.” It would be much better to choose to let it go than to have God rip it away. Either way it goes. Make the choice for yourself to kill it and cut it off.
Wrath is promised for the ungodly. What to do? “O Jerusalem, wash your heart from evil, that you may be saved.” You need a clean heart. There isn’t to be any sin in there. We’re supposed to be the pure and spotless bride if we want to be taken to Jesus.
How can we get free of sin? Jesus came to take away our sin! Our victory over sin is in Christ Jesus. Unintentional sin and sins of ignorance have always been covered by the sacrifices, including our final sacrifice in Jesus. God can see us as blameless even if we are in sins we’re ignorant of.
There will come a time when He shows us that sin, and then we must get rid of it. But always remember that we can’t save ourselves. Salvation is in Jesus Christ alone. It is impossible for man to get free from sin. But it’s not impossible for God to get man free from sin.
Confess it. Hate it. Want it gone. Ask Him to take it away. Cooperate with the process!
There can be things we’re doing that are not right, but we’re not consciously choosing them. To me it’s a different category. For instance, we may have a fear reaction that we don’t feel like we have any control over. We can purposefully make decisions to not let the fear control us, but the feelings may still be there. God will bring things like these to the forefront and deal with them and bring them to victory. There is deliverance and victory in Christ Jesus.
