Choices

The people ask Jeremiah to ask the Lord what they should do, and then they make a promise. They sound so holy and righteous. They say, “Whether it is good or bad, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God to whom we are sending you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the Lord our God.”

They know it will go well with them if they obey, but they don’t.

Do you make promises to God? Be careful what you vow. Don’t lie to God. He will remember your vow even if you forget.

Are you truly surrendered to God? Here they say that they will obey God no matter what He says. Have you said that to God? Can you say that no matter what you will follow Him?

Jeremiah says, “I will keep nothing back from you.” He’s talking about speaking all of God’s words, but can you say to God that you will keep nothing back? Do you reserve your “rights” to anything? Are you willing to give up everything BUT ____?

If you still have something of yourself, then Christ can’t be your everything.

Sit quiet with God and give it all up. Give up control over your life. Give up everything and give Him the rights to your life to decide what will and won’t happen. His choices for you will include suffering and trials. They are gifts. They are good and perfect gifts from the One who does all things well.

Is He good and loving and perfect and wise? Can you trust a good, loving, perfect, wise God with the decisions in your life?

If you believe God is who He is, then you need to live like it, act like it. Give it up all to Him as an act of the will. Let Him have His way. And be ready to obey. Make the choice now when you aren’t in the hard spot. Each day make the choice to obey, to go His way and not your own, so it’s an easier choice when you face the hard situation.
