By Reason of Abundant Water

God’s people are in a dry and thirsty land. We long for more of God, but He has already given us Himself. What more could we want?

I don’t think God’s people should be hungering and thirsting. We’re told we’ll be satisfied if we hunger and thirst for righteousness. He doesn’t leave us in hunger and thirst.

Ezekiel 19 says that we are fruitful by reason of abundant water. He’s the supply. He produces what is needful in and through us.

If we were filled with all the fullness of God (Eph 3:19), how could there be room to hunger and thirst for more?

If we lacked no good thing (Psalm 34:10), how could we be in want?

In fact, the declaration of Psalm 23, which we all know, is that there will be no wanting for anything if the Lord is your Shepherd.

To say we are lacking seems to be saying that the Lord is not our Shepherd and that He hasn’t given us Himself or that we’re not seeking Him and so we are lacking good things.

The problem definitely always lies with us and not with God.

God provides abundant water. God’s living water never runs dry.

The Spirit in us is described as a spring whose waters never fail and as a river of living water. That’s a flowing. That’s not a filling up, using up, and needing more. We’re never at a lack of Holy Spirit if we keep things flowing. Damming up the works with sin and selfishness could stop the flowing, but it’s never going to come from His end.

His righteousness is available to us. His everything is available to us: His meekness, His kindness, His patience. We have the fullness of God in us if we’ve given over self to crucifixion and resurrection into the life of Christ.

We can draw on the wells of salvation and live in that righteousness and joy and peace and faithfulness and self-control.

We have salvation available to us day in and day out by reason of abundant water.
