And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption.

1 Corinthians 1:30

When I read Andrew Murray’s Abide in Christ, there were two things that really stuck with me. One was the mantra, “In Christ of God.” It’s from this verse at the end of 1 Corinthians, “because of him you are in Christ Jesus.” It’s a keeping verse. If I am in Christ of God’s will, where else could I be found?

But that’s not the only remarkable thing in this verse. Look at all the things that being in Christ of God affords us. Jesus became to us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.

I have the wisdom of God which is foolishness to the world. It’s wisdom that says man can be redeemed, sanctified, and righteous by faith in Christ Jesus.

I have the righteousness of Christ. It’s an actual righteousness that I live out, constrained to live as one dead to the flesh and alive in Christ.

He became my sanctification. The holiness of God should be exhibited in our lives. I live as one set apart, demonstrating Christ’s character through my life.

He became my redemption, the blood-price of my life. I am not my own.
