Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:3 NKJV

If God were to give you whatever your heart desired, would you want it to be Him?

Ahab got a lying spirit because he hated God’s prophet and loved his lying prophets who told him how great he was. Israel kept going after their idols, so they were given over to them. Romans 1 describes people given over to what they were desiring, setting their worship on.

There is nothing worth pursuing other than God. There is nothing that can delight like God. We read yesterday the phrase, “the river of Your delights.” Do you delight in God? Do you find in Him the love, joy, and peace every human seeks after? If you are substituting lesser versions through human relationships, entertainment, and the methods of man, you might not even recognize the real thing.

Ask God’s help identifying and removing the lesser things from your life. Of course, you aren’t going to remove your spouse because they are a lesser love, but you can remove your need for them to show you love in a certain way. If I were to write a book on marriage, it would be called, “I Don’t Need You.”

All of our needs are met in Christ. He’s our fulfillment. He’s our delight.
