Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

1 Corinthians 11:1 ESV

This verse in context is about church traditions if you look at the rest of the chapter, and it’s coming after Paul talking about not giving offense or harming someone else’s conscience. Pulled out as a standalone verse, it should be used with caution. When I find someone is trying to imitate me, I redirect them to imitate Christ.

1 Corinthians 11 is the Scripture that led me to wear my headcovering. I have never gone to a church where a single other woman covers her head. I have written at least a couple thousand Bible lessons, but I’ve never taught that a woman should cover her head. I just answer women when they come to me asking about it.

While we’re on the scripture passage, though, I will say this one thing about it. There are people who see it as a symbol of oppression, but Scripture says it’s a symbol of authority.

10 (NKJV) …the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head because of the angels.

When I speak the word of the Lord, anyone can know, including the angels, that I have the authority to do so because I wear a symbol of authority.

To me, it means that I recognize and honor my head and wouldn’t be sharing the word without permission, that I’m speaking in the authority granted me.
