April 8

Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law….”

Luke 12:51, 53 ESV

Jesus says He came to bring division, not peace. Jesus came to reconcile us to God, that we would be at peace with God. He did not come that we would have peace with the world. There has always been a division and that is right: Cain/Abel, Shem/Canaan, Jacob/Esau, ….

Today, there are the wheat and the tares. We must not seek peace where it was not intended.

However, when Jesus’s birth was announced, it was proclaimed that there would be peace among those who pleased God. Jesus is the well-pleasing son, and we are too when the Father sees His son in us.

This turning of family members against each other is not the story of a family that loves and serves God. They should have peace and have the perfect bond of love. Don’t accept less for your family. Pray and believe and do your part of being a peacemaker.
