“Are you for us, or for our adversaries?”… “No…” Joshua 5:13-14 ESV

How often do we approach God like that, with our little brains thinking we understand the situation? God has had to correct me on this, not coming to Him with a this or that, but letting Him direct freely, not within my scope of sight and understanding.

When Joshua asks, “Are you for us?” We would certainly expect Jesus to answer, “Yes.” We expect God to be for us. I count on God being for me. I could quote you scriptures such as the end of Romans 8 or Psalm 56:9. God has been for Israel since the day He chose them as His own. What does this “No” answer mean?

I think Jesus is actually on the Father’s side. He came to earth and was obedient, submitted to the Father, to the point of death on a cross. He was empty of Himself, serving the Father’s will.

We have to choose to be on His side. The stories of the attack at Ai and the prodigal show that. His arms are open like the prodigal’s father. Just run into them.
