An Excellent Wife

  1. Here is verse four from Proverbs 12. “An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.”
  2. Let’s think for a minute about how that relates to Christ and His church. The Church universal, those who are in Christ’s body, are His bride. He’s preparing a spotless, blameless, wrinkle-free bride for Himself.
  3. We will be an excellent wife and His crown.
  4. What does that look like today? Each of us needs to live in such a way as to be the excellence of Christ.
  5. To be blameless means to be without sin, without fault. Daniel was without fault because he had an excellent spirit in him.
  6. We have the same excellent Spirit if the Spirit of God dwells in us. If He does, according to Paul in Romans 8, then the body is dead because of sin and alive because of righteousness.
  7. The body of flesh and its lusts should be put to death. When we realize we have faulted in something, not because we chose sin but because God revealed something to us, then we confess it to God. We repent and choose to get rid of it. We can ask God’s help in that and He will work to cleanse us from all sin.
  8. That’s how we are to live as Christ’s excellence. A wife bears the name of her husband. We bear the name of Christ. Pray to be an honoring representative of His name.
  9. Why? Because the opposite is true. A wife can also bring shame.
  10. This is a big problem because a wife that brings shame is like rottenness in His bones. The Church is bone of His bone and flesh of His flesh, according to Ephesians 5 in the New King James.
  11. We are hurting the Body when we don’t live lives that honor Christ. You don’t want to be amputated out of the body, either, so pray to live in a way that honors the name of Christ!
