Reading something like Revelation 4 can help you get a bigger view of God. We have a buddy God in America, but from His throne come lightning and thunder. There are strange beings who exist to declare God’s holiness.

Don’t lose sight of the holy God. Yes, we can draw near because of Jesus, but only because we’ve been made holy. He is other. He is unique. He’s not one of the gang.

When God is glorified and honored by the strange living creatures, the elders join in the worship and fall down before the Throne. They cast down their crowns and cry out, “Worthy are you, our Lord God!”

How often are you on your face declaring God’s worth? They got those crowns as a reward. They throw them down. They know they aren’t worthy. Only one is worthy.

John begins weeping because the Most High needs someone worthy to open the scroll in His hand, but no one was worthy. No one but Jesus. He conquered. He has proven His worth. If Jesus hadn’t died on the cross, it wouldn’t be finished. There would be no end. We need that scroll opened to bring this world to an end and usher in the new.

The elders again cry, “Worthy!” This time to Jesus instead of the Father. They are holding the bowls of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. They are also holding harps. This is imagery. You can’t play a harp while holding a bowl. There aren’t seven spirits. Seven is the number of perfection or completion. There is the Holy Spirit and He’s perfect, complete in Himself. The elders have prayers and praise in their hands. That’s how we come before the throne. You want to come into the throne room? You do it through prayer and praise.

Jesus bought for Himself those from every tribe and people and nation and language. He made us priests and a kingdom and we will reign on the earth.

But God alone is worthy. He is worthy to receive all power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!
