The Lord tells the people of Israel to get rid of everything detestable that they feast their eyes on.
That phrase caught my attention. What do you feast your eyes on?
What makes your eyes light up?
What makes you excited that you get to see?
Is there some entertainment, TV, movies, games that make your eyes light up when you see them, when you think of them?
Can you honestly say your eyes light up at the word of God? Do your eyes light up to read the Bible?
Do your eyes light up in prayer when you are looking to your God in expectation?
If God is your delight, then He would be your feast.
If God is not your delight, then Bible reading and prayer are boring chores you do out of duty, not a gift that you are excited to receive.
The God who created you and the whole world and who knows every little detail about you and loves you devotedly wants to talk to you. Isn’t that amazing? He has things He wants to teach you. Don’t you want to know what He has to say? You have to spend time with Him. You have to make Him your delight and get rid of all the other loves.
We’re to love God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. All. He gets all of it.
He will teach us the good and right way and give us all that we need to walk in it and live.
He will be our Shepherd and continually lead us and sanctify us, setting us apart to Himself alone.
And He does us good, not because we earned it, because we’ve earned hell and God’s wrath. He does us good because He wants us to know Him as Lord. He wants to be our God and for us to be His people. So in His super abundant grace and mercy, He deals with us not according to what we’ve done, but according to His own character and for His name’s sake.
