The Earth Will Melt

Jesus will return. When someone scoffs about that, they are just fulfilling the prophecy that people will scoff about that.

The earth was destroyed by a flood. God made a promise that He wouldn’t destroy the world by flood again. He used a rainbow to show His promise. The rainbow can also be a reminder that next time He’s destroying the earth by fire. There will be nothing left that time. Believers will be out of there. A new earth will replace it.

God is not slow in returning. God knew from the beginning when Jesus would return. There was a set time. He hasn’t missed it.

My favorite thought about the timing of Christ’s return has to do with 2 Peter 3, where he says that a day is like a thousand years. It was about four thousand years from creation to Christ. It has been about two thousand years since Christ. At the end of the sixth day comes the day of rest. I like to think of the “day” of rest as the millennial reign of Christ. By some counts we are way past 6000 years, but by others, we still have a couple hundred years to go (as of 2025 when I am writing this). I don’t have confidence that anyone has exact numbers when it comes to dates. I certainly pray, “Come quickly, Lord Jesus.”

But God does not hurry. We want release from the suffering of this world. God wants all to come to repentance. He is patient and kind, desiring salvation for all. But when the time comes, Jesus will come. When the time comes, the earth will melt.

Can we hasten that day? Yes and no. It has been set from the foundation. But, God uses people. He has plans but He uses people to pray, and then to do, in order for them to come about. We have our part. One of those jobs is declaring truth to all the earth. Be a part of the Great Commission and hasten the day!

And for yourselves, don’t be carried away by the lawless. Walk in integrity. Love the truth. God gives people what they desire. Love the truth and you won’t be deceived.
