John is writing that we may not sin. We walk in the light and maintain fellowship with God. That’s the goal. BUT. IF. But IF anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father.
You are never to choose sin, but God will reveal to us our unintentional sins and sins done in ignorance. When He shows us our sin, we confess and repent, asking Him to cleanse us and remove the sin, changing our lives to be pleasing to Him. That way fellowship is never broken.
It’s possible because Jesus is the propitiation for our sins; He paid for our sins. He paid for the sins of the whole world. That’s what Scripture says. God so loved the world. Never lose sight of God’s love for everyone. He is a good God.
Again, we are told about liars. They are the ones saying they know God but don’t keep God’s commandments.
God’s love is perfected in those who keep His word. That’s who lives in fellowship with God. Those who know Him walk how Jesus walked.
How did Jesus walk? In love. You are a sinner if you hate your brother.
It’s the one who remains in the light by loving others who has no cause for stumbling and will remain right with God.
A believer is forgiven and knows God. They have overcome the evil one. Their strength is from God’s word abiding in them.
They don’t love the things of the world. Those liars, they love the things of the world and the love of the Father is not in them.
What are the things of the world? The desires of the flesh, the lusts of our eyes, and the pride of life.
There’s a warning that many antichrists have come. They try to deceive. Rely on God to teach you truth. And here is a sign of truth for you. It’s those who practice righteousness who are truly born of God.
