Have you answered the call to follow Jesus? He leads His children into the harvest. He sends His disciples out. That’s you and me. We have a ministry of reconciliation to fulfill, bringing people back to God.
His disciples are given authority over every unclean thing. It’s not their authority. God has the authority and power to do the works of God. When we operate in the Spirit, it’s the Spirit that’s operating. He does the work. We get out of the way and let Him work.
We don’t get to proclaim salvation. Salvation is impossible with man, but possible with God.
We don’t wield God’s power willy nilly. It’s submitted to God to accomplish His work. Jesus had all power and authority and didn’t use it except at the direction of His Father. He did nothing of Himself.
Don’t start thinking you have power and authority. It all belongs to Christ. You are dead, crucified and buried. It all belongs to Jesus.
And since it is not our work, we are not paid for it. We offer freely. That doesn’t mean we don’t receive.
The disciples took nothing for their trip, yet they were fully provided for. People took them in and housed them and fed them. They were taken care of, but not by receiving money so they could take care of themselves.
They had to rely on God. He had to open hearts and homes to them. There would be some who would receive them and their message, and there would be blessing all around.
There would be some who would reject them. There would be some who would beat them.
Jesus’ disciples get a promise. “You will be hated by all for my name’s sake.” We can’t be out to please people. Please Jesus. Please the Father. Give up your life and save it.
