- Listen to these words of wisdom from Proverbs 23.
- Do not weary yourself to gain wealth…When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings…(from verses 4 and 5).
- What does it say about money? Certainly, that it is fleeting. It goes so easily. It’s hard to hold onto money. There are so many in the world that live without any bank account. They just spend what they have month to month, week to week, or even day to day.
- One thing that is very true about money is that it’s never enough. You think that if you had a certain amount it would be enough. But when you have that amount, a whole new realm of possibilities open up just out of reach, that you could have if you just had some more money, and on and on it goes.
- Don’t set your eyes on things, on money. It is not the answer. And don’t weary yourself to gain wealth. Even Christians will say to work three jobs to get out of debt. Getting out of debt is completely Biblical and should be your goal if you are in debt, but wearing yourself out for money isn’t the best way to go about it. Neglecting your family isn’t the best way to go about it.
- What should you do with your money? What should you go after?
- Buy truth, and do not sell it, get wisdom and instruction and understanding. (verse 23)
- Truth is what is of value. Why? Jesus is the Truth! Seek truth, not from the news, but from the Word of God. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and understanding as you read. Ask Him to teach you, instruct you in the way you should go.
- Apply your heart to discipline and your ears to words of knowledge. (verse 12)
- Discipline yourself to seek what is good. Seek only God.
