Put My Name On

Numbers 6 contains the famous blessing.

The Lord bless you and keep you;

the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;

the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Then there is one more verse.

“So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”

Do you live under the blessing of God’s name?

Remember to speak the Lord’s blessing over your family, over those the Lord has given you. This isn’t an Old Testament thing. There are many, many blessings spoken by the apostles. You can find some of these easily by looking at the beginning and end of their letters. Here are a couple.

Peace to the brothers and sisters, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love. (Eph. 6:23-24)

We can speak such blessings and mean them!

Living in blessing is living with His name. We talked about camping under His banner. It’s similar to that.

You are clothed in Christ and bear His name. Think of it as a uniform and badge. Do you walk around as one with authority as an ambassador of Christ? Do you disgrace the uniform? Do you bring honor to the uniform?

You should be the same inside and out as well as inside your home and outside your home. You should always remember that you have His name on you, and it should direct your choices and actions by the grace of Christ and the power of the Spirit. Remember this especially when you have an audience, which includes your children. You are what they see of who Christ is.

The Lord bless you and keep you. To keep you means to guard you. May He keep you close and guard your steps so that you may always walk in the light as He is in the light and shine like your Father in heaven.
