We’re told about people coming up with evil plans and then carrying them out because it was in the power of their hand to perform the plot.

What is in the power of your hands to do?

Jesus was sent to set people free where there was captivity and to bring light to where there was darkness. Those are our roles as Christ’s representatives in this world.

Jesus was the visible image of the invisible God. We are now the visible image of Christ on the earth. We are literally His body on earth.

Do you believe you have it in your power to set free the captive and to bring light into the darkness?

If you are in Christ and walk in the Light, then you are bringing the Light wherever you go. Darkness automatically flees where there is light. Light dispels darkness. Wherever you are should be light. How bright is determined by how much self is dead and Christ is alive in you.

What about setting prisoners free? People are prisoners of their sin. They are prisoners of self. They are prisoners of the entertainments and cares of the world.

You should be free of those things and be able to tell others how to get free of them. Jesus is the answer to their problems. He sets people free. Laying down our lives in baptism, allowing flesh to be cut off by faith, and receiving the life of Christ by His Spirit poured out, is the ticket to new life, where the old has passed away, where we come into the freedom of Christ. Our freedom is to say no to sin and self and the world. We are free to love in Christ.

And we turn to His Word daily because Jesus is the Word, the Living Word. His word brings light and freedom. We take it in and we share it with others.
