1 John 1:6-7 ESV If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

I thought there was an interesting contrast here. The contrast isn’t between having fellowship with God or not. The contrast mentions fellowship with God and fellowship with others.

The two go together. You can’t have fellowship with others without fellowship with God. To be of one body, we have to be of one Spirit. To walk in the Spirit, you need to be united in fellowship with God.

Do you have fellowship with the Father and with His Son? John says that he is proclaiming these things so that you can have that fellowship. You need that fellowship. One of the enemy’s goals is to “wear out the saints of the Most High.” It’s God’s presence that brings the fullness of joy, and the joy of the Lord is our strength.
