But if he says, ‘I have no pleasure in you,’ behold, here I am, let him do to me what seems good to him.

2 Samuel 15:26 ESV

David doesn’t have the confidence of deliverance this time. It’s certainly a different David than who faced Goliath, a lot more humble, if somewhat beaten down.

There’s no grand statement now, just a surrender into the Lord’s hands. It’s not a bad place to be.

We need to come to the place of surrender. While we have the promise of deliverance, we have to accept that may come in the appearance of arrest or martyrdom or any other number of situations. We need to surrender and decide His choice is what we want.

While it’s good to come to a place of surrender like David, as in, even if I go to hell, the Lord is worth serving and has done right by me, there’s a much better place of surrender.

There is a place of rest for the believer that knows you are kept. It knows you will never be outside His favor because He Himself keeps you from sin and holds you in His hands. It’s where you abide as one with Christ and there is no more seeking. He is the way, so you know He will keep you from going off the path. It’s where your only work is remaining at rest. It’s a heart surrendered to loving God and nothing else.
