My edited version of Deut. 7.

You must devote [idolatry] to complete destruction. Show no mercy.

For you are his treasured possession because the Lord loves you. Know the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments. You saw the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which the Lord your God brought you out [of slavery to sin]. So will the Lord your God do to all the of your enemies [fear, doubt, pride, anger, self]. You shall not be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God.

You shall utterly detest and abhor any abominable thing [anything that draws affection away from God, has become most important – what you seek, causes you to do things less than upright to have, replaces Christ as your source of joy/peace/comfort/love] and shall not bring it into your house but devote it to destruction. Show no mercy.
