March 22

And leaving everything, he rose and followed him.

Luke 5:28 ESV

He left everything. He didn’t just leave the table and coins behind. He left his job, his means of providing for his family. He left his family for that matter, at least for the time. He left his reputation behind. Most importantly, he left his identity behind. He was now a follower of Jesus.

But finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the midst before Jesus.

Luke 5:19,28

These friends left behind their propriety. They didn’t care about what was proper. They were going to get to Jesus.

While he was in one of the cities, there came a man full of leprosy…And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him…

Luke 5:12-13

This man left behind his fear. He wasn’t to enter the city. Certainly he wasn’t to get close enough to touch. But he was after Jesus, and that was all that mattered in the moment.

Leave it all behind and go after Jesus.
