“Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom He is pleased.”

Luke 2:14 ESV

We know Mary pleased God; she had been called highly favored. However, we don’t read the most peaceful thing about her.

and a sword will pierce through your own soul…”

Luke 2:35 ESV

The word study of peace on Biblehub speaks of completeness, which would relate this word to the Hebrew word shalom.

We are made complete in Christ. If He is our all in all, then we seek after no other thing. We have peace, not fearing anything from God and content with our lot.

How, when the Lord speaks of a sword piercing your soul, can we not fear and instead keep peace?

Our peace is in Christ, who is unmoved by the trials and troubles. We abide in Him, connected to the Vine, which is firmly rooted and grounded in love. We treasure God’s word in our hearts and like David in the Psalm we read today, we sing.

..sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning..

Psalm 59:16 ESV
