Then Israel sang this song: “Spring up, O well!—Sing to it!—”
Numbers 21:17 ESV
Yesterday, I read John 4, where Jesus teaches the Samaritan woman about living water. I noticed that it said it would BECOME a spring. The Spirit poured out on us was to become a spring in us, an ever-flowing fountain of life.
Since I had been thinking about that, this verse – spring up O well – caught my attention.
It says, “Sing to it.” Sing to the well. Well, if this well is the Living Waters, then we are singing to God, which should be songs of praise and thanksgiving. Giving thanks always and rejoicing are ways of abiding and walking in the Spirit since those who walk in the Spirit have their minds set on the things of the Spirit.
Giving thanks and praise is a key to the waters of the Spirit given us becoming a spring of life within us to flow out continuously as we walk in step with the Spirit.
