Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.

Proverbs 16:20 ESV

We’re blessed if we trust in the Lord. I would say the first half of the verse tells us how we can trust in Him, by giving thought to His word.

We need to think on these things. I can remember breaking out laughing one night in Turkey. There was gun fire outside. I couldn’t worry. Logically, thinking things through, I couldn’t find a reason to be afraid. I told my husband I can’t worry about anything!

I am not always able to hold that thought when challenged in new areas, but thinking through His word, I get there. 🙂

We see stories like the million-man army coming against Israel (2 Chron. 14), and we realize that there was never any danger to Israel. Their only intent was to steal, kill and destroy, but it was an empty threat. There was no actual danger to Israel. When Israel trusted in the Lord and called to Him to save them, they were saved. It was guaranteed because knowing God’s word tells us that. His word is proven true.

This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.

2 Samuel 22:31 ESV

Give thought to His true word. It’ll do you good!
