But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him.

Psalm 4:3 ESV

God sets apart for Himself the godly. Do you know that you have been set apart to God? Has He called you by name and made you His own?

David knew that God had chosen him. He had been anointed. He had been taken from the fields and put on a throne. He had been given victory in battle. He knew that God had set him apart. David knew that when he called, the Lord heard. And when the Lord hears our prayers, He answers (1 John 5:15).

David then speaks of his joy and peace in the Lord, things every believer should experience. David often speaks of his enemies, those coming against him from all sides and all day. But he sleeps in peace because He trusts God to keep him safe. I hope you know the peace that lets you lie down and sleep. David’s joy in the Lord is better than anything he experiences from the pleasures of this world. I hope you know that joy. It’s always there for us. Look to the Lord. See Him smiling at you and smile back. Experience the joy of knowing you are His.
