Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

This is not an evangelistic message. This was written to believers! No one was asking, “What must I do to be saved?” For those responses, read Acts. The immediate context can be found in verse 12 where Paul says there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, that He is Lord of all.

Besides the contextual difficulties in using that verse to bring people to Christ, Jesus plainly says that it’s not true. He tells us there will be many who confess with their mouths “Lord, Lord” who are going to hell. No one gets to say the “magic words” and get saved.

Psalm 20:1, 9 May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! … May he answer us when we call.

Last year, my daughter lost our (only) car key at my parents’ place. I cried out to the Lord, and within a minute or so we noticed it in our little key holder by the door 🙂

Psalm 20:4 May he grant you your heart’s desire…

What is your heart desiring after? My desire is to be one with Christ as He was one with the Father.
