…he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.

2 Kings 22:2 ESV

This should always be our stance, eyes fixed straight ahead on Jesus. I pray for the Lord’s keeping to not let me even glance to the right or the left. But Satan will do His best to try and distract you and get your attention. One of the ways he uses is slander. Eventually the “city” turns against Paul, but did you see who the first concern was? James was saying that it was the Jews who had become believers that were zealous for the law and upset at Paul (Acts 21:20). It often comes from other Christians. James suggests trying to prove to them how law observant he was. It makes things worse. We’re not meant to save ourselves. If we can’t change their minds, what do we do?

Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness!

Psalm 150:2

We do what we’re always supposed to be doing, eyes on Jesus praising and thanking. Satan’s attacks should actually help us do that because we have to work harder to keep focus the harder he works to turn our focus.

But it definitely gets to a point where it can’t be ignored. Then what can we do?

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

Proverbs 18:10
