Colossians 1:15 [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
Hebrews 1:3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power…
John 14:9 Jesus said to him, “…Whoever has seen me has seen the Father…”
Jesus is the image of God. We can look at His life and see who God is. Remember that you are learning about who God is and what He is like when you read the gospels, the books of the Bible that tell the story of Jesus’ life on earth. One of the things Jesus accomplished during that time was showing us what God in the flesh looks like.
Colossians 1:19 For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ.
As Christians, we say:
Galatians 2:20a I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.
If Jesus is the image of God because the fullness of God dwelled in Him, then we are now the image of Christ if Christ lives in us. To the extent that we let Christ live in us and through us, we are showing Jesus to the world, just like Jesus showed the world His Father.
We can take on the life of Christ in many ways. The Bible says we are clothed with Christ.
Galatians 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
The Bible says we take on His righteousness, His right choices, His right way of doing things.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
John 13:15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.
1 John 2:6 Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
As we live doing those right things, we show Jesus to the world and they get to know their Creator and King.
Lesson Point: Jesus’ life showed the world who God is. Our lives should show the world who Jesus is.
