1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
Once Jesus died for our sins, accomplishing what was needful for us, Jesus could rise to new life. He came back to life in a glorified body, one that will never grow old and die. One that won’t suffer pain.
Jesus spent forty days on earth teaching about the kingdom of God and then He returned to heaven.
Acts 1:9-11 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
1 Peter 3:22 (NLT) Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his authority.
We call Jesus the risen king. He rules now from heaven. He has the authority over heaven and earth. He will also return to earth to rule from Jerusalem as king.
Zechariah 14:8-9 On that day living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem…. And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one.
Read the verses and state what is taught in each. I do usually try to pull the ideas for the verses from the teaching in the order they are presented, so that they are in a sense recreating the lesson but from the Scriptures themselves. However, the verses can add even more than I share in the lesson. The Bible is the main way God speaks to us. When you read the Bible, or when you read a verse somewhere (like here, hint, hint), always ask God to speak to you and teach you.
Romans 6:4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
Philippians 3:21 He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
Acts 1:3 He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
Hebrews 1:3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
Revelation 20:4 … They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
Daniel 7:14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.
Lesson Point: Jesus came back to life and lives today as One with all authority.
Challenge Question: Do you think of Jesus as alive? Do you think of Him as a king on the throne?
