January 24

And the disciples said to him, “Where are we to get enough bread in such a desolate place to feed so great a crowd?”

Matthew 15:33 ESV

It is frustratingly easy to struggle for faith when you have already seen God miraculously come through before. Faith is a gift from God, though, so it’s a good and perfect gift. It will always be sufficient for our need. We build our faith by getting to know God. We don’t need to have faith for the what and when we want something to happen. We just need to have faith in God. That’s a lot easier because He is unchanging, completely faithful to us and always true to His character. We get to know Him and His unchanging character by reading the Bible and asking Him to reveal Himself to us.

Faith is knowing. It’s an assurance, not a hope. It’s a settled matter, not a declaration of truths trying to convince ourselves. It comes from God alone as we get to know Him. Past victories are not enough. But He is.
