Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand, and clothed him in garments of fine linen and put a gold chain about his neck. …And they called out before him, “Bow the knee!”
Genesis 41:42-43 ESV
At first glance, it seems like this is the turn around in the story, where it all gets better. But that’s not true at all. Joseph had a hard test being in prison for years as an innocent man. He’s now going to have to spend the next seven years enduring a much harder test.
Us humans are really bad at handling God’s blessing. We will come to the stories of the Israelites who cry out to God when in trouble, but then quickly forget Him in their comfort.
It takes a man strong in faith to handle the power and wealth at Joseph’s disposal. It’s easier to look to God as savior when you are down and out. Joseph held onto his faith and integrity through it all, even being married into a powerful family that worshiped other gods. Joseph remains faithful through it all.
