God wants them to be ashamed. He needs them to be ashamed. If they are ashamed, then they will have the whole law known to them so that they can follow it.
Do you understand that knowing God’s word is a gift? To have God’s word revealed to you, so that you know what God desires so you can please Him is a gift.
He doesn’t just reveal everything to everyone. There were plenty in Jesus’ day that didn’t get what Jesus was saying. He revealed His word to His disciples, though.
“The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him.” That’s from Psalm 25, verse 14. He will tell you things if you fear Him.
Jesus tells His disciples all that the Father had told Him because they were His friends. He defines friends as ones who obey His commands. That’s from John 15 as well.
Love, fear, obeying, they all go together. And they all go together with knowing His word, and knowing His word is getting to know God, and knowing God is eternal life.
Where does the shame fit in?
God is friends with those who obey. Those in sinful rebellion are not obedient.
God is near to a contrite heart. A contrite heart recognizes its sin and wants it away. It wants to repent and turn away from its sin and turn back to God. It’s a heart broken over its sin.
God comes and comforts and lifts up and reveals Himself.
Jesus Himself was the peace offering so that in our repentance we can be washed clean before the Father. Through the offering of Christ, the Father says to us, “I will accept you.”
