This prophecy about a tree growing tall and becoming proud and being chopped down we’re told is about Pharaoh. It is not a straightforward prophecy, though. It mentions Eden repeatedly, referring to it as the garden of God.
This is a prophecy of being cut down to size; it’s a warning against pride.
This nation or this person became proud. They were proud of their stature, the heights they achieved. Everyone envied them. And they liked it.
This is the sin of satan.
The sin of the Garden was to want to be God.
The sin of satan is pride.
The pride leads to the other.
Pride is called a deadly sin.
God knows the proud from afar. That’s a scary thing.
If you are beautiful, God created you that way. He gets the praise for His creation.
If you are smart, God created you that way. He gets the praise for His creation.
If you are capable, God created you that way. He gets the praise for His creation.
If you achieved great success, God created you that way. He gets the praise for His creation.
You may protest and say you worked hard for what you earned. He gave you life, breath, a heartbeat, a functioning brain, the opportunity, the time and space, the everything. In a split second, he could take it away.
Give thanks. Acknowledge your Creator.
There is no end to the depths of your depravity. There is no good thing in you. If there is any good in your life, from your life, God did it.
Give thanks. Acknowledge your Creator.
Start each day on your face in humility. Acknowledge your weakness, your helplessness. Recognize you know nothing, have nothing, can do nothing.
Throw yourself on the mercy of God and rely on Him for everything.
That’s the road to glory.
