We hear God speak to us through the Son. We know what Jesus said, through the record of it in Scriptures. We also hear God speak to us through looking at what Jesus did. God speaks to us in what Jesus says and does in our lives as well. He is with us, His life in us by the Spirit.

Jesus was God in the flesh. God out of the flesh is brilliant light; think of Jesus shining when He transformed. He is “the radiance of the glory of God.” He shines God’s glory. We shine God’s glory because Christ is the light in us. God exalts us, putting us on the lampstand, so that His Son’s glory can shine out. You don’t have a little light to shine. You have God’s glory to shine!

Jesus is a friend, a confidant, but don’t lose sight of Jesus as King of the Universe. All things were created through Him and He upholds the universe.

He rose from the dead to sit at the right hand of the Majesty after He provided for the purification of our sins.

The rest of Hebrews 1 is basically quotes from the Old Testament. I like to think Barnabas wrote Hebrews, the educated and able partner to Paul, but more than willing to remain in his shadow.

The quotes are about Jesus and can be found in Psalms. Psalms is a prophetic book. David was anointed and the Holy Spirit spoke through him in his gifting in writing songs.

The writer of Hebrews is going to establish who Christ is. Here we have Jesus as Son, as greater than the angels. God speaks of His Son, and we read how the angels worship Him.

Jesus rules with uprightness because He loves righteousness. He is anointed with the oil of gladness more than His companions. We’re His friends if we obey His commands. That means we get the oil of gladness too. It’s joy in the Spirit.

Jesus reigns on high. The angels are spirits sent to serve for my sake. Jesus rules over every being and can command the angels.
