God Is Wise and All-Knowing

The big word for all-knowing is omniscient. He knows not only everything happening right now, but He just knows it all. He knew us before He made us. He can see the future. I believe He can see it all. By that I mean, I believe He knows what we would do in any situation. I think He could plan out our lives, positioning each of us in a time and place in all of history because He knew what we would do. I believe that’s how He can orchestrate our lives, predestine us, because He knew it all. He can say this one is Mine from before time because He knows who will choose Him. He’s not forcing our choice by predestination; He’s declaring what He already knows is true before it happens.

God, as one who knows everything, is also One who is wise. He can make wise decisions because He can see all the possible outcomes. The Bible talks about the Spirit of wisdom, which would be the Holy Spirit. There is only one spirit for us, not multiple ones. The Bible also talks about Wisdom as a person. For several chapters in Proverbs, it talks about Wisdom being what we need for our lives to be blessed. The promises of Wisdom are as the promises of God. God, Himself, is our wisdom. We’re told to ask for wisdom if we lack it. What do we receive? God Himself! The Father loves to give the Holy Spirit to those who ask.

Read the verses. What is God saying?

Acts 17:26 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place.

Romans 8:29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Isaiah 11:2 And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

Proverbs 8:10-12 Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her. “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion.”

Luke 11:13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Lesson Point: God knows it all and God knows best!

Challenge Question: Do you ask God for wisdom and expect to receive it? When has God given you wisdom? Do you need to ask for wisdom now?
