God is Majestic and Almighty

He is Maker of heaven and earth, the Exalted One. Majesty is royal power; God is majestic because He is mightier than anything else, greater than anything else. We already looked at God being powerful. There is some overlap, but this time let’s focus on being in awe of God, recognizing His greatness and our smallness next to Him. I’m going to let the Scriptures speak for themselves.

Psalms 113:4-6   The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens! Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?

Nehemiah 9:5b-6 Blessed be your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise. “You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you.”

Psalms 33:8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!

Psalms 45:4 In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; let your right hand teach you awesome deeds!

Psalms 29:1-4 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness. The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

Psalms 47:2 For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth.

Psalms 47:8 God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.

Isaiah 40:12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? (The answer is God!)

Isaiah 40:15, 17 Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are accounted as the dust on the scales; behold, he takes up the coastlands like fine dust. All the nations are as nothing before him, they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness.

Lesson Point: We should be in awe of the God who is the great and powerful ruler of the universe.

Challenge Question: If you don’t regularly kneel in prayer, try it today. Bow before your great king. Show respect for His majesty.
