But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
Exodus 17:12
When Moses had his hands held up, his hands weren’t steady. The Hebrew word there is what is mostly translated as faithfulness. God was faithful to Israel. Moses was faithful to what God asked him to do. Aaron and Hur were faithful to give him the support he needed.
We can bear each other up in the battle, the faithful friend. They weren’t going to leave him. Christ is the most faithful friend. He bears us up on eagles’ wings even above the battle. And from that heavenly perspective, we can see around us and behind us and see the Lord’s goodness and mercy that’s been with us and is with us even in the midst of the battle.
