God gives a word that He will sweep away everything from the face of the earth. All of it.

Mentioned among those swept away are those who bow down and swear to the Lord. Why? Because they also swear to other gods. They don’t seek the Lord or ask of Him.

He promises to punish the complacent, who don’t think God is working, not doing good or ill.

These aren’t things like we see other places. This isn’t talking about people sacrificing their children. This isn’t talking about bloodshed and violence. This is talking about people who aren’t acknowledging God. It’s talking about people who don’t make Him an important part of their lives.

Maybe we could call them lukewarm.

But it will be their sin that has caused their destruction. Sin steals, kills, and destroys. The wages of sin is death.

It’s sin to go after other gods. And, if you aren’t going after the Lord God Almighty as your one and only God, then you are going after other gods. Everyone worships something or someone. We were made to worship.

People worship self, money, power, skill, gifting, knowledge, etc. They seek after it. They give it honor and praise. People seek their help from “experts” instead of God. People seek their comfort in any number of things instead of from God. We go after many things other than God. It’s idolatry.

God is a jealous God. He hates to see His own with another. He knows He alone offers what we need. He doesn’t want to see us harmed. He wants us to receive His love. He will save those who know and receive His love.

Be loved or be destroyed. Why is this a hard choice?
