I wrote yesterday that the Lord’s motivation is love. In Psalm 136, we read line after line about why the Lord does what He does, from the red sea drying up, to the death of kings, to all flesh being fed. lt’s all the same reason. His steadfast love endures forever. The Lord’s steadfast love is eternally devoted to His children.
It’s a devotion that orders that idolatry be devoted to destruction.
It’s a devotion that shows patient mercy time and time again and then knows, with a heavy heart, it must give the ones He loves over to their enemies, over to their sin so that they can learn they need Him for their Savior.
It’s a devotion that will move heaven and earth on behalf of His children. When His child cries out in distress, He gets angry and the mountains tremble. It’s a devotion that wipes out an army with one blast of His nostrils when they threaten the one who looks to Him for help and security.
God so loved the whole world, but His devotion is to His own.
Give thanks.
