Cries for Help

  1. The poor are in need. Everyone is evil. No one does good. Enemies are winning.
  2. David is lamenting and pleading.
  3. But then says, “But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me” (Ps. 13:5-6).
  4. And that’s what God was looking for.
  5. “The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God” (Psalm 14:2).
  6. David was after God’s heart. He wanted God, that’s who he was after. David’s enemies were after him to remove him and take his kingdom, but David was after God to dwell in God’s kingdom.
  7. God’s looking for hearts that belong to Him, that desire after Him. He will give Himself to those who desire Him.
  8. We’re given a description of the person who gets to abide with God. In a nutshell, he is one who loves his neighbor. He doesn’t talk bad about someone else, is honest, keeps his word, helps others out without getting anything in return.
  9. And that’s our command, those who desire to abide in Christ. “And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him” (1 John 3:23-24a).
  10. Don’t look at the evil, the problems around you. Look to God and desire after Him. Receive from Him His love, so you can have His heart for those around you.
