…Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.
Job 28:28 ESV
Job was sounding like Proverbs today as he spoke of wisdom. He spoke of man working hard to bring rocks from the earth, but not knowing where to find wisdom. But maybe they didn’t search for it with the same energy as when they hunted gold and sapphire because, as Job says, “Man does not know its worth.”
Wisdom is found in God alone. He declared it and established it. We can find it through one means. We need the fear of the Lord.
We need to treat Him like the holy God that He is. Yes, we approach with confidence. Yes, our spirits cry out, “Abba, Father.” But we can’t lose sight of who He is. Nehemiah called Him, “the great, the mighty, and awesome God.”
We don’t take for granted our pardon. We don’t take for granted that we can ask for forgiveness and be cleansed from our sin. God can’t ignore sin. It cost Him His life. God the Father had to hold Himself back and let others torment and kill the apple of His eye because of that sin. To turn away from evil is understanding. To act like sin is just a matter of course is to rub salt in the wound. Jesus gave His life for us so that we could live in the freedom from sin.
