“Teach me, and I will be silent; make me understand how I have gone astray.”
Job 6:24 ESV
We had been told, what sin was the cause of Nathaniel’s cerebral palsy. Either we or our ancestors had sinned! We knew we walked blameless before God. Anything needing confessing was long since repented of. The news didn’t help one bit. God is not punishing children for an ancestor’s sin. That’s totally unbiblical. People with this knowledge love what the Bible calls “the deep things of Satan.” If we were supposed to know, God would tell us. We shouldn’t be learning from the father of lies even if there is some truth; Satan loves mixture to confuse things. People like this love to cast out demons, real or imagined.
Jesus never required confession or repentance before healing. That was true even when we know there had been sin in connection with the need for healing (John 5:14).
Even if we knew someone’s sin and choices had led them to their situation, none of that precludes kindness and compassion.
