…the righteous gives and does not hold back.
Proverbs 21:26 ESV
But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men….the one who prophesies builds up the church.
1 Cor. 14:3-4 NKJV
…he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings…Thus Job did continually. Job 1:5
The portion of Psalm 37 we read today repeatedly speaks of the generous righteous (vs. 22, 26). I pulled out from the readings a few ways of giving. They give their money, gifts, and intercession.
The righteous give their money without holding back. Watch for that tug to hold back. That’s not from God. That’s what Ananias and Sapphira did.
The righteous use their gifts to care for others and to build up the church. Verse one of First Corinthians 14 starts out, “Pursue love.” If you go after loving God and loving others, I think God can just naturally bring you into using your gifts in your calling. My experience is of God bringing me into things and then me realizing how He created opportunity for my gifting, not me recognizing the gift and opportunity and making something happen.
The righteous intercede on behalf of others. We’re to pray continually. It reminded me of this verse, a good one for the story of Job. “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer” (Rom. 12:12).
