‘I shall be safe, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart.’ Deut. 29:19 ESV
I fear this is the attitude of much of the church, especially in America. America is actually the hardest place on earth to be a Christian. Our ease and comfort kill us. Our many teachers mean we can just pick to listen to whomever says what we want to hear. America loves the gospel of easy grace, forgetting that there is a cost of discipleship.
Today, we read that we need to love God in order to live.
We live by loving God. It shouldn’t be such a hard choice since He loved us first when we were His enemies and slaves to our sin. He gave and gives everything to us, yet we cling to all our loves in the world and don’t give Him all. What’s our problem? I’m so thankful I finally asked God to remove my other loves. He did the work. He accomplished it. He’s my whole life now.
…choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land…
Deut. 30:19-20 ESV
