And Gideon made an ephod… And all Israel whored after it there, and it became a snare…
Judges 8:27 ESV
We saw in Jesus’s story how Satan sought to tempt Him when He was weak physically, hungry after fasting 40 days.
Satan doesn’t play fair. He will also hit you when you are on a high, like what happened to Gideon. He takes any opportunity. The devil prowls around looking for prey. And he will specifically go after leaders, which would include pastors, husbands and firstborns. What can we do?
The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble!
Psalm 99:1a ESV
First, we fear the Lord. The fear of the Lord will save you out of many a temptation. We live before a holy and just God who has never once ignored sin. He can’t; He is holy and just.
Second, we love God! God’s love for us is His enabling us to obey Him by the all-sufficient blood able to cleanse us, the all-sufficient mercy able to pardon, the all-sufficient grace to help us and give everything needed for godliness, and His all-sufficient power by His Spirit to overcome. If we love Him, our heart is to keep His commandments.
Thirdly, we pray. That’s the only real action in Ephesians 6. We have the faith, the salvation, the truth, etc., but the thing we do is pray!
