Light Years

The sun is 491,040 million feet away. To make the numbers smaller, we can say that the sun is 93 million miles away.

Everything in space is large. There are billions and billions of stars, and we’ve never even been able to measure the universe.  To scale the numbers down, a new measurement was created to make the astronomical numbers of space smaller. The measurement is the light year.

One light year is 6 trillion miles. It’s the measure of how far light can travel in a year.
